Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Film Program
Earn an Accelerated BA degree in 2½ years
SFI’s accelerated BA in Film program provides a total-immersion educational experience that revolves around a collaborative framework that is so crucial in the world of film. Students complete the program as a cohort working and learning together as a group for the entire program. Earn your BA degree (180 quarter-credits) in just 30 months:
First Year Foundation: SFI’s BA in Film program begins with a four-quarter first year experience program that provides a contextualized general education program with filmmaking, digital arts and performance. Students participate in hands-on workshops in 3D printing, multi-camera filmmaking, mobile media field work and interactive performance producing individual and team-based projects.
The Concentration: The next six quarters consist of the Concentration, the student’s chosen area of study. Here, students engage in coursework as part of a collaborative group, developing their skills for their future careers. Traditional classroom studies are combined with hands-on education and practical experience so that students apply the skills they will use in the real-world. All students participate in a culminating capstone experience where they work as part of a creative team. And every SFI student benefits from our commitment to career services and coaching.

Transfer Students and BA Completion at SFI
SFI’s BA Degree is Transfer-Friendly
SFI recognizes the value of credits taken at other institutions and works closely with all students to assure that all possible credits taken at other institutions can transfer to SFI so students don’t have to duplicate or repeat courses or credit at SFI.
Many students come to SFI with previous college credits or have participated in high school programs that earn college credits. For these students, SFI provides a seamless pathway to complete the BA degree. All transfer students take the concentration at SFI which provides the central framework to SFI’s education and 90 quarter credits (50% of the 180 credits required for a BA degree). The remaining 90 credits can be transferred from another institution.
- Students with an AA degree (or equivalent) take the concentration of their choice and earn a BA in just 18 months
- All other transfer students take the concentration of their choice with a customized schedule for the remaining credits needed to complete their degree
- Upside-Down Degree: Students can take the concentration of their choice and complete the remaining credits at another institution and earn a SFI degree
Certificate in Film Program
Students who enroll in the Certificate in Film program earn their certificate by choosing a concentration in Filmmaking, Acting for Film, or Digital Arts, Animation and Game Design. The completion of the concentration and associated courses provides 90 credits. Students choosing the Certificate in Film program may already have a BA degree, may wish to earn a certificate in film and complete the needed credits for a BA degree at a later time or may desire to earn a stand-alone Certificate in Film.
