Our keynote speaker will be Beth Barrett from the Seattle International Film Festival. Join us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBJ5kurFbVw\n\n\n\nBeth Barrett\, Artistic Director of Seattle International Film Festival has been with SIFF since 2003\, and is responsible for managing the artistic vision of SIFF\, including all aspects of programming for the Seattle International Film Festival\, SIFF Cinema’s 5 year-round screens\, and the SIFF Education team. Graduating from the University of Iowa with a Masters degree in Northern Renaissance Art History\, Beth moved to Seattle in 1993\, and has worked as a baker\, bartender\, art docent\, and digital prepress technician. She secured SIFF’s status as an Academy Award® qualifying festival for short film in 2008. Beth currently serves on the Board of the Film Festival Alliance and the City of Seattle Film Task Force. In addition to her daily work in programming\, Beth has served on juries and panels in Palm Springs\, Park City\, Cleveland\, Calgary\, Vancouver BC and Berlin\, Germany

DESCRIPTION:July 30 6pm-7:30pm Pacific Time – Scotty Milder \nWriting the Horror Film \nThis class will cover the fundamentals of writing within the horror genre. Topics covered will be Stephen King’s three levels of terror\, the difference between horror and suspense\, how to approach common horror tropes from a fresh and unpredictable perspective\, and the creation of dread and suspense on the page. \nScotty Milder is a writer\, filmmaker\, and film educator living in Albuquerque\, New Mexico. He received his MFA in Screenwriting from Boston University. His award-winning short films have screened at festivals all over the world\, including Cinequest\, the Dead By Dawn Festival of Horror\, HollyShorts\, and the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon. His independent feature film “Dead Billy” is available to stream on Amazon.com and Google Play.
