Screenwriting Concentration Curriculum

The SFI Screenwriting Concentration is taken as the first year of our two-year Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Filmmaking & Producing. Students learn by doing with a hands-on curriculum focused on writing for film. Your studies will include:

The Screenwriting course curriculum is recognized by the ACCSC. You will earn a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree. SFI features accelerated programs and accepts transfer credits from accredited colleges.

The Writing Portfolio

Your first year will focus on your writing skills and developing a professional writing portfolio. Screenwriting students graduate with the following:

  • Feature-length screenplay with rewrite and polish
  • Television pilot-script with rewrite and polish
  • Television spec-script with rewrite and polish
  • Narrative audio-script with rewrite and polish
  • Video-game presentation packet with rewrite and polish

Exclusive Video Demo-Reel

In addition to your portfolio of written work, Screenwriting students will graduate with a unique video demo-reel made up of selected scenes from your portfolio scripts! Work in collaboration with instructors and students from SFI’s in-house Filmmaking and Acting programs. That means you will get to work with real actors and filmmakers to produce YOUR story – an exclusive advantage when pitching your scripts to film studios.
